FRACTAL, SCALE & SPECTRUM
Astrosonics
"Dimensions" can co-exist in different contexts on the same scale, applying to different but cooperative levels of inner and outer experience; and that there are extra "Dimensions" of experience at each of these levels which however are of differing scale ... which are Fractals of their original matrix. These first fractals of a given zodiac are the Dwads. But there is a system of astrological technique that has already been in existence for over 40 years, which is purely fractal in its conception and application: this is the technique of Astrosonics. Its creator, Michael Heleus, continues to develop and refine it, building philosophical structures together with entirely new astrological systems and unique musical compositions. His website can be found at http://www.angelfire.com/nm2/aona/astrosonicservices.html. Astrosonics works with "a scale model of the solar system in sound" which has been shown to "create psychological and physical responses in people". (Michael Heleus, "Astrosonics", Astrological Journal Vol.XVII No.2, Spring 1975.) Fractals are progressive changes in scale according to a single repeated mathematical formula; in Astrosonics, planetary periods expressed as Cycles Per Year are multiplied repeatedly according to the elegant Heleus formula until they are re-expressed in Cycles Per Second, or Herz. Many colleagues, myself included, can testify to the astrologically precise effects on body and psyche of sounds generated at this scale of wavelengths, based on personal planetary patterns. It is not my intention here to go any further into the development of this remarkable work since the 1970s, except to recommend the reader to the article mentioned above and the subsequent piece in the Autumn 1975 Astrological Journal, “Bringing Astrology Down to Earth with Astrosonics” also by Michael Heleus. There is also a chapter on the subject in Frank McGillion's book, “The Opening Eye” - which is a trail-blazer in its own right. What I want to do is to develop certain ideas that spring from the earliest Astrosonic research, that is to look at the found correlations between "Fractal" planetary periods, sounds, and colours. Planets and Colour In a monograph dated January 3rd 1974, Michael Heleus gives us a table of planetary periods expressed as ANGSTROM wavelengths: ( I have rearranged it initially.) EARTH 3541 and 7082 MOON 4238 MERCURY 6822 VENUS 4357 MARS 6661 JUPITER 5251 SATURN 6520 URANUS 4648 NEPTUNE 4559 PLUTO 6853 Now, the extent of Angstrom wavelengths of visible light runs from about 4000 (below which lies the Ultra-Violet) to roughly 7500, beyond which are the ranges of the Infra-Red. Through Michael's extraordinary work it is now possible to ascertain which colour in the spectrum is naturally related to each planetary body through its cosmic period - and we can include the Sun, as the Earth's period is also the Sun's apparent period. EARTH 3541 Ultra-Violet MOON 4238 Indigo/Violet VENUS 4357 Blue NEPTUNE 4559 Blue-green (see Voyager pictures) URANUS 4648 Bluish-Green JUPITER 5251 Green SATURN 6520 Orange-red MARS 6661 Red MERCURY 6822 Deep Red PLUTO 6853 Dark Red SUN 7082 Magenta? First it is clear that these wavelengths confirm colours that have been ascribed to planets throughout astrological tradition, notably Mars and Venus polarising to Red and Blue (and how tantalising that Mars' wavelength is 6661, almost exactly ten times the "Number of the Beast" given in the Book of Revelations of St. John!) The blue-greens are typical choices of those born under Pisces or with a strong Neptune; and stronger, more electric jade and peacock blue-greens are loved by many Uranians and Aquarians. Green for Jupiter may seem strange initially - but remember the powerful bonds the Sagittarian type has with the natural world and its wisdom; also that Jupiter has its exaltation in Cancer, who very often has an instinctive love of green. Green is the colour of conservation! Green is the colour of the Earth's real riches! I have tentatively ascribed Magenta to the Sun; this is because in naturally-occurring spectra, formed through a prism or by multiple rainbows, the red dissolves gradually into the adjacent violet, in a gradation of colour that runs from orange-red through vermilion and scarlet to crimson, ruby, and magenta - which leads back to lilac and violet. Another reason is because the Ruby has been long accepted as a principal gemstone of the Sun; and finally because Magenta is one of the most spiritual colours we can experience, and justifiably given to the Star which is the abiding symbol of our spiritual truth. Taking the spectrum as continuous in this way, then Earth at half the Magenta wavelength becomes the octave of the Sun and adjacent to it in the spectrum cycle. Just as the Ultra-violet is invisible to the human eye, so we remain unmanifest unless we embody the light and life of the Sun. Yang and Yin Notice particularly, now, how the "Yang", masculine, potentially malefic planetary energies cluster in the hot, red part of the spectrum, close together, while the "Yin", more feminine energies spread over the cool blue and green colours - like a relaxed hand as opposed to the "malefics" clenched fist! You may have come across my ideas on Five and Seven before now, where a 5-pointed star set in the Zodiac circle with its beginning at 0 Aries takes in every one of the Yang, Saturn/ Mars/ Mercury/ Pluto/ Sun-ruled signs, while a 7-pointed star focussed on 29 Pisces includes only the Yin, Moon/ Venus/ Neptune/ Uranus/ Jupiter-ruled signs. Here exactly are the two main spectrum sequences; so Fiveness is Red, and Sevenness is Violet/ Blue/ Green. Five, Magic; Seven, Mystery. The two sequences do actually correspond with their natural order around the circle in each case, even though not starting with the Mars sign for Five, or the Neptune sign for Seven. There is just one anomaly, and that is in the Five-star, where Sun precedes Pluto (Leo before Scorpio.) And where the Five-sequence runs counter-clockwise from Capricorn, the Seven-sequence runs clockwise from Cancer. Interesting! Before going any further into colour correspondences, we must at this point take the next step, into ... Planets and Sound How many astrologers and philosophers have not made their attempt to reveal the Music of the Spheres! Astrosonics has created a rich, potent body of knowledge in this field; and again I must refer you to the on-going work of Michael Heleus for a full and up-to-date account. Our interest here is in the simple correspondences found between planetary periods and the musical tones, through this same "fractal" alteration of scale. First of all it was necessary to convert Angstrom wavelengths into Herz, or Cycles per Second. The table that emerged is as follows, on the even-tempered scale: EARTH/SUN C/C sharp MOON B flat VENUS A NEPTUNE A URANUS A flat JUPITER F sharp/G SATURN D MARS D MERCURY D flat PLUTO D flat Fresh evidence here, once again, of the truth of astrological tradition - ever since the discovery of the outer planets, Neptune has been held to be "the octave" of Venus, and Pluto "the octave" of Mars. Here we see Venus and Neptune sounding the same note in their revolutions about the sun, and Mars and Pluto barely a semi-tone apart. But the closest ties are between the two "power" planets, and the two "knowledge" planets! How fitting that Venus and Neptune should sound the "A" - this is the very note that is given to every orchestra the world over to ensure each instrument is in tune. "A" is truly the note of universal harmony. Trying out sounds, I went into our chapel to see what we had chosen as an Angelus bell - it was a clear, beautiful Jupiter F sharp! The Sacring bell we had been given, with its four different tones, proved to sound A, A flat, B and B flat ... all beauty and mystery of Venus, Neptune, Uranus and Moon. It was also interesting to see what correspondences arose in relation to the six candles and the central Cross on our Liberal Catholic altar; for each represents one of the Seven Rays, with its appropriate jewel. The Cross emanates the 2nd Ray of Love-Wisdom, and holds either Sapphire or Lapis Lazuli, the loveliest of the blue stones. So this central Cross will also relate to Venus (blue) and "A" - again, very fitting to the concepts embodied in the 2nd Ray Cross. To the left of the Cross, as you face the altar, and next to it, is the 7th-Ray candle, symbolic of Ordered Service, carrying its Amethyst, the violet gemstone. Its natural connection is then to Moon and the note of B flat. Second on the left is the 3rd-Ray candle of Active Intelligence which bears an Emerald - the most beautiful of green gemstones. We can now see that it has a most fitting relationship with Jupiter, and with the notes F sharp/G. The outermost candle to the left of the Cross is that of the 6th Ray of Devotion, whose gem, the Ruby, shows it now to be the candle of the Sun and its tone C/C sharp. Now, innermost on the right, is the 1st-Ray candle with its clear crystal or diamond, symbol of Strength; its correspondences will be dealt with presently! Next come the 4th Ray and Red Jasper, "Harmony through Conflict" which must belong to "D" and its four Yang planets. Lastly there is the 5th Ray candle with its golden Topaz for Knowledge, its note "E", at the pole of Venus. Unless Chiron or a significant asteroid has a period that creates yellow and whose note is E, there is no major correlation here. (Maybe Ceres? Pam 2013) It is very interesting also to note that the Fraunhofer absorption lines in the Solar spectrum often fall either on or extremely close to the wave-lengths that convert to the even-tempered scale. By definition, then, they also coincide quite closely with the found planetary wavelengths tabulated above. What we do find at the spectrum position of "E" and golden-yellow, is the tightly-twinned pair of Sodium absorption lines - Sodium being the source of golden light so often seen shining from streetlamps, and which is also used as a standard illumination for particular tests in gemmology. Sodium is, of course, the mineral basis for common salt, in the form of Sodium Chloride. I hope in due course a planetary correlative will be found. Giving Voice ... In his excellent and highly-recommended book, “Through Music to the Self”, Peter Michael Hamel gives us another set of connections, in the average resonant frequencies of the common vowels. According to our developing system, therefore, we find the following planetary associations with his ascribed tones (the numbers after the notes should be in superscript): VOWEL HERZ (appx) NOTE PLANET HERZ NOTE PLANET U (oo) 300 Fl (JUPITER) A (Ah) 500 Bl (MOON) Ae (Eh) 1000 B2 (MOON) Oe (Er) 1350 F3 (JUPITER) 500 Bl (MOON) O (Aw) 1550 G3 (JUPITER) 300 Fl (JUPITER) Ue (u) 1800 A3 VENUS/NEPTUNE 700 Fsharp2 JUPITER E (Ay) 2100 Csharp4 SUN/EARTH 500 Bl (MOON) I (Ee) 3000 G4 (JUPITER) 300 Fl (JUPITER) There are brackets where the given approximate average wavelength does not quite match that of the nearest planet - but bear in mind the latitude already given. The thing that is most noticeable is that no "malefic" wavelength appears at all, confirming the sacred importance of the utterance of the Vowels in all the ancient, enduring Mysteries. The intoning of the AUM or OM would, according to this, evoke energies close to those of Moon and Jupiter - binding in the mystery of sound the worlds of the Sacred and the Secular. To voice the ancient sacred syllable, HU, is to lift oneself into the breath of the purely holy on the sound of Jupiter alone. To form the sound ‘u’ the lips are shaped like a kiss ... and here we find the sweet and loving vibration of Venus/ Neptune! The Chakras It is worthwhile now to return to our consideration of the Levels and their Chakrasi can we add anything new? It is possible that we can ascribe colours to the Chakras now, together with their planetary and musical associations - but this must to some extent be tentative. We might then find: CHAKRA LEVEL COLOUR PLANET NOTE Crown HS Magenta Sun C/C sharp Brow HT Violet Moon B flat Throat HM Blue Venus (Neptune) A Heart GSL Green Jupiter F sharp/G Solar Plexus GD Yellow ? (Ceres?) E Spleen GS Orange (Mars)/Saturn D Base GT Red Mars/Mercury/Pluto D(f1at) One might have expected gold at the Heart, being found constantly the choice of Solar and Leo people; but there may be a connection here with the Green Lion of the alchemists, esoteric truths emerging rather than the expected, familiar associations. The colours of Throat and Base are totally in keeping with their Taurus/Scorpio polarity. Saturn at the Sidereal level matches well with the idea of socio-cu1tura1 conditioning and duty. The Sun is rightly placed at the Crown. The Moon seems odd at the Heliotropic - but has long been given to the Mind, and this scheme may reflect a higher concept of Moon/Mind than we are used to, in the real moral status of the Entity. It is worth observing, however, that this same set of frequencies in the Violet carries most of the vital Mercury/planet synods, according to a further tabulation of Michael Heleus, emphasising the higher mental activity of the Brow area. Likewise the Crown frequencies are mostly Sun/planet, Venus/planet synods. Another point of interest - unconnected with the Levels - is that when the tone-colours are entered on the Circle of Fifths, complementary colours oppose each other across the circle. Also, drawing "Trines" into this circle creates four triangles, each of which carries three primary colours, or near-primes, the basis for a whole spectrum. Moreover, their sequence is very close to Zodiacal, but with enough inconsistencies to demand further researches. The Eternal Triangle Now one may seek to present all this information in a graphic form, just as early colour researchers did; Newton, Goethe, Chevreul and Ruskin, for example, each presented a Colour Circle - but Helmholtz and Maxwell found that a Triangle expressed the interrelationships of the Primaries, complementary colours and white far more effectively and consistently. Therefore a Triangle will serve admirably for our purposes here. It will be an equilateral triangle - but before presenting it, consider this property that it will have: with the three Primary colours of Light - Green (Jupiter, F sharp), Blue (Venus, A) and Red (Mars, D) - on the three points, the line Green-Blue will carry three semi-tones, the line Green-Red will carry four semi-tones, and the line Blue-Red will carry five semi-tones ... so you can see that also implied here is the classic Pythagorean Triangle. In the Autumn/Winter 1985 issue of RILKO magazine, Joyce Hargreaves
made a most beautiful presentation of the Pythagorean triangle; Osiris
is seen at the short, ‘3' side of the triangle, and Isis adjacent on the
'4' side. Match this idea to what we have found, and we find Osiris on
the line subtended by the masculine, Red angle, and Isis on that
subtended by the Feminine, Blue angle of the figure. Jupiter and Green,
the Active Intelligence of Ray 3, holds the Right Angle ... on the
Square ... and on the long ‘5' line subtended by this angle she has
placed Horus, their Son, with the risen Sun and the Scarabaeus. I find
this symbolism very fitting - particularly the idea of expansion into
Life and growth seen in Jupiter's subtending of the 5-line whose square
is the sum of the squares of Venus and Mars. Its Ray, the 3rd, has
associations with the Third Person of the Holy Trinity, the Holy Spirit.
The Creative Principle finds powerful expression in such a
figure.
The Matter of Scale It is interesting to look at it in terms of musical scale: there are only two major scales which contain the notes essential to the main planetary and colour factors in this triangle, one being the key of D Major which builds from D/Red to include E, the vital F sharp, G, A/Blue, B, and the C sharp Of Sun/Earth. But it does not include the Moon's A sharp (B flat) nor Uranus between G sharp and A. Symbolically, here, the "malefics" will give no quarter to the enlightenment that is their major threat! ... Now, if we go to the key of A Major, the "benefic" key, G sharp replaces G in the above sequence, admitting the potential for change and spiritual insight. Moon is still not included - but as Earth's satellite, perhaps this has less significance than we might assume. If we move to a key that does include the Moon, it is at the cost of Venus/ Neptune, as the A sharp/B flat replaces the pure A. Here, perhaps, lies the symbol of our human choice - to aspire to Solar spirituality, or limit ourselves to the Lunar realms of the lower psyche. Many people are overly seduced by the latter these days, and I wonder if they realise how misguided this might prove to be, at least in the short term, for their spiritual life. Musically, now, the three sides of the triangle sound two Thirds and a Fourth. The principle of Love and harmony in Venus/Neptune is accentuated by the Perfect Fifth between A and E midway on its subtended line, bearing its complementary colour, Gold. The choice of Jupiter's Exaltation degree at 15 Cancer is the more interesting because in the Dwad it is repeated almost directly opposite in the mysterious Alpha/Omega point of B/C and Magenta ... for at 15 Capricorn begins Dwad Cancer, echoing the energies of Jupiter on the right angle. (It reminds me of William Blake's image of God measuring out His creation with compasses - set of course at a right angle.) The creative imagery of the Pythagorean figure runs all through the planets, colours, tones and signs here, and more will probably emerge with deeper study. The Diamond Body But I believe this to be implied in our equilateral figure, which will bring into focus, at its centre, the combining of all colours in White Light. Here too is the gem of the 1st-Ray candle: the perfect Diamond. Now you can understand why there is no planetary ruler of the First ray; for in white and in pure clarity all colours are combined, all planetary energies are merged and fused. At the centre of the Triangle, where lines crossing between complementary colours all join, is white, is Diamond. This is the symbol of the Diamond Body at the heart-centre of all peripheral experience; and here is the living silence at the heart of all cosmic sound , Even the combination of all sounds is known to us as "white noise". The Diamond is symbol of the Will; the Will is at the centre of all that is created, and of all we do. White is the blending of every colour of light; black is also here, in the combination of all pigments. Diamond is white carbon. Graphite is black carbon. Carbon is the very building block of earthly life. We see here the symbolism of our basest and our highest nature; implied is the alchemical process and inner journey from our Materia Prima to perfected being. Coal, too, is black carbon - the carbon of earth returned to earth after life is finished. Fine Diamond is formed at great depth, under tremendous pressures; the will is forged deep within the growing soul, under the pressure of challenge and long-suffering. When this figure is extended into three dimensions, with the central Diamond forming the apex of a tetrahedron (the first solid), we have the very structure of the Carbon molecule of which we are built. Zodiacal ascription of the correlated colours, tones and planets has not proved easy; but I believe the orientation eventually chosen, of the Circle within the Triangle, is very expressive of the truths that have been emerging. It has seemed appropriate to align the Water Signs with the three points of the Triangle; Jupiter has its exaltation in the sign of Cancer, its 3rd-Ray Emerald friendly to the green of sea-water, while Venus in turn is exalted in Neptune's sign of Pisces and both Mars and Pluto have rulership over Scorpio. This places the Summer sign with Jupiter and Green and the life-principle of expansion, while opposite, between Band C at the Alpha/Omega point of the spectrum lies the Winter sign Capricorn in which life dies and is reborn. The complementary to Green is Magenta, which warms to Ruby in the sun at C: here it expresses the spiritual mystery in Capricorn. But Cancer and Capricorn also symbolise White and Black, Light and Dark, Life and Death - emphasising even more the fitness of this vital polarity to form the dominant axis of the figure. So we find the Water signs carrying the Primaries of Light; and you can see that rightly the Earth signs bear the Primaries of Matter - the pigments Yellow, Cyan (turquoise blue) and Magenta at Virgo, Taurus and Capricorn respectively. With Cancer/Jupiter at the top of the two-dimensional figure, a pentagram drawn in the Yang signs will be inverted, but its complementary 7-star will be upright. The Masculine planets at D, Red, can be related to analytic Left-brain activity and the Feminine at A, Blue to the intuitive Right brain. Then the dominant axis from Jupiter can reasonably be said to relate to the Pineal, most particularly at the central point of the Diamond Body. Observe, now, this: that the cluster of ideas at D, Red may be considered matters of Severity; and that those at A, Blue, are related to Mercy. Where have we come across those ideas before? In the Qabalah, in its principal symbolic structure, the Tree of Life. The central pillar of the Tree is that of Mildness, and carries the Sephiroth of the Lights and of dark Earth; this matches well with the Jupiter axis on Cancer/Capricorn. It is as if, here in the Triangle, we have the whole Tree in concentrated form, the Crown Sephira matching the apex Diamond. I wish to take you further: remembering that Carbon is the mineral basis of Diamond, consider now that its tetrahedral molecules combine to crystallise in the Cubic System. Inferior crystallisation, at shallow depth and under inadequate pressure will create cubic crystals; but fully crystallised Diamond takes on Octahedral form ( as does Gold). The cubic forms of crystal are fragile; not so Octahedra, and these crystals being singly refractive, do not transmit double images. ("If thine Eye be single, thy whole Body shall be full of Light" !) The Holy City It is this great difference in strength and quality between the Cube and the Octahedron which leads me to dispute the case carefully-argued by the late Gordon Strachan in his otherwise splendid book, “Christ and the Cosmos” (Labarum, 1985) for St.John's New Jerusalem being in form a perfect cube. I agree with him, as do many nowadays, that the New Jerusalem of Revelations is a complex symbolic figure rather than the fanciful representation of an actual city in the heavens; but a cube it cannot - and need not - be. This is the description in the Book of Revelations: " ... Jerusalem, the holy city glittered like some precious jewel of crystal-clear diamond ... plan of the city is perfectly square, its length the same as its breadth ... it was 12,000 furlongs in length and in breadth, and equal in height .... its wall ... was 144 cubits high ... The wall was built of diamond, and the city of pure gold ... The foundations of the city wall were faced with all kinds of precious stones, the first with diamond, the second with lapis lazuli ... (etc) ... The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate being made of a single pearl .... the city did not need the sun or the moon for light, since it was lit by the radiant glory of God ... the pagan nations will live by its light and the kings of the earth will bring it their treasures." And in the midst of the city was the Tree of Life "whose leaves are for the healing of the nations ." Look at the enormous height of this city - can this be the height of buildings? Surely not, when the walls are so much lower, a mere matter of 144 cubits! A perfect cube would have walls of 12,000 furlongs in height - otherwise it is not a perfect figure at all. My suggestion is that the 12,000 furlong height is that of the city's apex, at its centre, as if it were built upon a perfect, massive pyramid, the upper half of an octahedron whose height from centre to apex equals the length of each of the four sides of its perfectly square plane. This makes much more sense of the visionary description - and is fully in keeping now with a "city" of gold and diamond, whose crystal form it has taken. The "height" might equally refer to the length of each side of the four triangles that meet at the figure's apex - and this would mean a form that was perfectly octahedral and closer still to the form of diamond and gold. St.John's intuitive, revealed account can only be referring to the Body of Light, the Diamond Body which is the secret of the Golden Flower. It is the only image that is adequate to honour the perfected self, reunited and identified with its Source and Destiny, the Godhead; a being of pure light that has become impervious to any evil, and contains in its being all the archetypes of Good whose symbols have informed every previous life. Jewels, colours, sounds; pearls for the cycles of the Moon; the Tree "at the centre" - in fact the essential substance of the finished diamond; every aspect of material and spiritual Life contained in one rich and glowing symbol. It has total integrity. it is the union of all Rays and of all zodiacal and elemental archetypes. Even the image of many molecules building the diamond - so, many Trees of Life growing within the City, by the River of the pure Water of Life flowing from the Godhead, bearing their twelve crops of fruit, one every month - marries with the requirement to live many separate lives and to perfect or redeem each one, before the living Diamond is complete. It is to this we all aspire; this common human goal unites all races and creeds. It is the end of alchemy, the Emerald tablet, the Philosopher's Stone - the Grail. It is the work for humanity to to which the astrologer is called. ........................................................................................................................ DEVELOPMENTS A problem has remained up till now: how are the two systems of zodiacal colouring to be reconciled? The first, empirical system works vividly - certainly at the 'lower' levels where one can match one's knowledge of the person to the colours and vibrational energies of their zodiacal grid. The second proves itself through its very integrity and coherence, and its basis in the accurate, tested Heleus computations. The answer is found in a pair of experimental grids I made very early on, to illustrate the numerical principles through zodiacal colour, and which are shown below. I was interested to see how the numbers 5 and 7 would present, considering their complementarity in every respect. They did not disappoint:
5 - the number of Man, of Yang energy, of power and magic, displays vivid contrasts of scarlet, gold and Scorpio's greens, with the sombre line of Capricorn at its heart. 7 is all softness, in blues, greens and purples, warmed by the gentler earths of Taurus and Virgo, and silvered from Cancer - the very colours of mystery, of the feminine, all that is Yin and receptive. Going back to the Triangle, the colours of 5 (except for Gemini) are found on the left side - where all the planets of the zodiacal pentagram - Mars, Mercury, Sun, Pluto and Saturn group together on the red angle at note D, ascribed to Scorpio, the sign of Magic. Therefore one may say that this angle generates the Cosmic Pentagram and draws into its rule the five signs Scorpio, Capricorn, Aries, Gemini and Leo, giving them their exoteric colouring. Likewise, the colours of 7 (the exoteric Earth browns excepted) are found on the right side, where the planets of the Cosmic Heptagram are spread - Moon, Venus, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune - focussing by contrast on the blue angle at note A, ascribed to Pisces, the sign of Mystery. This angle can then be seen to generate the zodiacal seven-pointed star, drawing into its sphere of influence the seven signs Pisces, Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius, giving them their special colouring. It is interesting and probably far from accidental that political parties of the Left tend to choose red for their slogans and emblems, and those of the Right choose blue. Also it is noteworthy that those who are drawn onto ''the left-hand path" are inclined to the exercise of occult power, while those on "the right-hand path" orient to collective religious activity involving 7-fold symbolism. We have here a powerful patterning of Duality, the fundamental conditions of our incarnate existence. It is strongly reminiscent of William Blake's image of the Creator-God wielding the dividers in his hand, for at the Triangle's apex is Jupiter, and the sign which esoteric astrology holds to be that of entrance to incarnation, Cancer, at which point everything that was single divides and polarises. The emergence of Green politics over that past couple of decades may have deeper implications than many realise - it is not just a matter of restoring essential vegetation, but indeed of re-balancing and reconciling the contradictory and complementary forces in the world through the introduction of a third force whose perspective is not partial but global. The significance of the Triangle extends further, to our progress in astrological knowledge. For it corresponds very closely to the system of higher esoteric rulerships described by the Tibetan in Alice Bailey's "Esoteric Astrology" (Lucis Publishing 1951) where, in connection with the Hierarchies, Aries' ruler is Uranus (adjacent in the blue), Libra is ruled by Saturn (adjacent in the orange), Scorpio is ruled by Mercury on the 4th ray (adjacent in the red), Sagittarius' ruler is Mars on the 6th ray (adjacent in the red), and Aquarius is ruled by the Moon (adjacent in the violet). However, that is as far as it goes at this stage of the author's study; deeper thought may in time reveal other correlations, open the understanding to deeper truths. Approaching the Centre Referring back to the life and choices of the individual, it is observable that as people make spiritual progress, their orientations become less pronounced, less extreme; the vivid hues chosen for dress and environment become in time more subtle. What is happening is that they are moving off the apices and edges of the Triangle in an approach to the Centre - where eventually all colours blend either in pure White, as the Light Primaries converge into One, or in Black at the combining of the colours of Earth. From black earth is ultimately derived the alchemist's Gold, so it would be rash to assume that the only Way to spiritual purification and at-onement is through the paths to White Light. In the Tao, after all, we are taught that the Light lies at the heart of the deepest darkness, and a seed of Dark in the heart of utter Light. Both Black and White symbolise renunciation of the world; black is worn by the aged and the widowed all over Europe, and by most Christian clergy, while white is chosen at the major spiritual transitions of Baptism, Confirmation and Marriage, also by many religious orders, and by clergy in tropical countries. It is worn at funerals in China, rather than the black which the West chooses. Growth through Colour Development in colour choice, and the energies this carries, may also be mapped by grids of the progressed patterns at all levels. The progressing Moon in particular - at least for a woman - has a strong influence on not only the experiences undergone over a 2 to 2½ year period, but the colour-energies with which one is for that time most comfortable. And then, coming back to the point at which I started this whole journey through colour, there are the patterns of the Current Draconic, in which it will be apparent that whenever a CD planet or angle contacts another in the nativity, those innate energies, those natal colourings will be stimulated, brought to the fore fully in that epoch of life-experience - and correlative musical tones chosen from the Triangle may have a healing and reinforcing influence if played on a loved instrument during periods of sickness or distress. Whenever the Dragon's Head is back at its radix, the Draconic (GD) level will be emphasised in the life, and karmic activity the priority. Whenever the Dragon's Head is at 0°Aries, the Spring Equinox, the mass of humanity must Iook to its Tropical drives and behaviour, with a view to improved self-awareness and control. Whenever the Dragon's Head is at the start of the Sidereal Zodiac (as I write in 2013, the latter is at 24 Aries 57 GT) both collective and individual roles are of extra significance, as Sidereal (GS) placements will be either exactly or nearly radix for everyone alive, and one must examine one's contribution with extra care. Whenever the Dragon's Head conjoins an individual's natal Sun, it is of great significance, as this draws all chart factors into their natal Geosolar (GSL) positions, and offers a rare opportunity to live straight from the Heart, to examine one's truth, to know oneself honestly at the Centre. Choosing the colours and tones that belong to the level in question, at the period when it comes into focus through the Current Draconic, will help to illumine the meaning of the life-passage and ease its distresses, either by simple immersion in their energies, or by their use as a focus for meditation . Not only the Decan colours may be used, but a further level of refinement added by including the second group of Decan colours derived from the computed Dwad chart at a given level (for example, on the night this work started, the Sidereal (GS) Sun brought through the buff hue of 3rd-decan Capricorn, but also Magenta from its GS Dwad position of 26 Sagittarius; the GS Moon at 0TA05 drew in pink ... and added only more pink as the GSD was still in the 1st decan of Taurus at 1TA00.) If this refinement is added to the nativity at its worldly levels, you will find colours that are commonly enjoyed as a combination by the person concerned. If this whole technique is applied using the colours mapped from the Triangle, a very different grid will emerge - but one to which the individual may respond on a far deeper level, beyond the confines of the personality: it may enable him or her to open their perception to the cosmic, rather than the personal truths, and thus to put on growth at transpersonal levels which may in time become conscious. A 21st-Century Astrology So the work on the Current Draconic, zodiacal colours, fractal astrology, interdimensional pattern analysis and the geometry of sound and colour at last all come together into a whole, a synthesis, which may form part of the superstructure for a 21st-century astrology. It is time for us in astrology to realise that we must now venture in earnest beyond the limits of our former skills, as the possibilities of growth in the 'horizontal' dimension of astrology are, I suspect, nearly exhausted. Whereas 'vertical' travel, like humanity's exploration of outer space, is in our discipline really only just beginning, though long in preparation. The changes in consciousness taking place all over the world now - and accelerating - must be matched by an astrology which can address these and assist them. Analysis of the lowest levels of psyche and soma, however detailed, is no longer enough, and in some cases may even be totally inappropriate. With the best will in the world, it is not possible to find all the answers from the Tropical nativity and its directions. The time has come for Interdimensional Astrology. It is also time for the intelligent layman to realise that both Church and Science have for long enough been 'economical with the truth' when it comes to the esoteric and spiritual life. Many excellent books are now in print on the subject of personal survival and the purposes of incarnation based on individuals' Near-Death Experiences and episodes of past-life recall; astrology too has a chance to re-present itself as a body of useful knowledge, as in InterDimensional Astrology a coherent system of analysis emerges which can be repeatedly tested without the hazards of ambiguity. Moreover, it has the potential to open our understanding of human soul-development, and the sources, reasons and fruits of both good and bad characteristics. The final truth is that none of this matters at all. We all abandon duality at the threshold of reunion in the Light; all so-called cosmic knowledge drops away with the last sheaths of separate embodiment. Some souls can live that truth while in the body. The dying Master rejects his work and shocks his pupils. But whiIe we are here, in the material universe of which astrology is an integral and vital part, at least we can use it - must use it, for Love's sake - as a life-saving bridge between misperception and spiritual reality. ......................................................................................................................... |
