Understanding the difference between Divination
or “Fortune Telling” versus the Science of
Calculated
Forecasting – Why you should care and how you can
benefit enormously from the latter.
Divination is often defined properly as ; “the practice of seeking knowledge of the future
or the unknown by supernatural means.”
Personally, I do not favour,
use or advocate this method. My rationale
for this is that
Is that assuming supernatural agencies exist at
all, one must question both the true
Intention of such and the validity of the
information they provide which results in
A nullification of any meaningful perceived benefit
derived.

SECRETS OF REALITY & NATURAL LAW - PART 1
In ancient Chinese lore both paranormal divination
as well as natural law observations
Used for forecasting are present, one must sift
through the various examples to
Filter out the dross from the gold but if one makes
the effort examples of pure
Functional principle may be found. Often
the word “divination” is used erroneously
When describing a simple functional method based
only on observation.
Following is an example that would make Sherlock
Homes proud ;
( Note, in the examples provided, whenever the word
“divination” is used, Replace this term conceptually with
simply the phrase “an understanding of natural law”)
Here is another fine example
;
“It is a winter night and
snow is whirling about the house. Shao and his son sit
and chat around the fireplace. Suddenly someone is knocking
at the door. First there was a single knock, after a while, five in a row. Then
a voice calls, "Shao, are you home? I want to borrow something from you.
Shao
opens the door and the visitor enters with a burst of
snow and wind. Shao already had a plan. He wants to see how good his son is
with divination. He says to his visitor, "Don't say anything about what
you want to borrow. I want my son to figure this out. Here, come over and make
yourself comfortable around the fireplace."
Like
father, like son - Shao's son is an I Ching student. No doubt he can start with
the number of hour, day,
month and year to develop a Pen Kua, Hu Kua and Shih Kua. But
because this is a test of his skill, he wants to develop a new method of his
own. He recalls that their visiting neighbour knocked
on the door once then five times. He decides that is the clue and he calls the
first knock the outer trigram Chien and calls the second group of
five his inner trigram. Which comes to be Sun. It is past 10 at night so the
hour is 22. To get the Moving Yao he adds one and five and 22 to get 28, and
when divided by 6 the remainder is 4...
It
is a very special case, for of the 6 trigrams there are 3 Qian and 3 aqre Sun. Qian is metal and Sun is wood. So the object their neighbour wants
to borrow is related to wood and metal. So the son judges and says, "You want to borrow a
hoe."
"You
are wrong," says Shao, "He wants to borrow an axe." "What
do you want to borrow!?" father and son ask the neighbour,
almost in unison.
"An
axe," comes the reply.
Shao
smiles and explains to his son how he erred. Sun tends to represents
something long, like a wooden handle. Qian stands for a round shape, especially
of metal. A how usually is pointed or has a flat edge of metal, an axe always
has a curved edge to cut wood better. But the two are close and Shao looks for
another sign to confirm. Is it daytime? Then the visitor may use a hoe in
daytime. Nighttime? This is impossible because there is no light for working
outdoors in the garden I the middle of winter. Yet an axe, yes, maybe the neighbour needs to cut up some firewood. Shao decides for the axe. Its use is acceptable within the time of
divination.”

Are there simple examples of natural law
observations, easily found
in our folk lore?
Yes, there are, here are some examples ;
“Previously, people led a calm and honest
existence, detached from undue desire and
ambition; they lived with an untainted
conscience and without fear. They were active, but never
depleted themselves. Because they lived simply, they knew contentment, as
reflected in their diet
of basic but nourishing foods, and clothing that was appropriate to the season
but never luxurious.
Since they were happy in their position in life, they did not feel jealousy or
greed. They had
compassion for others and were helpful and honest, free from destructive
habits. They remained
unshakable and unswayed by temptations, and
they were able to stay centered even when
adversity arose. They treated others justly, regardless of their level of
intelligence or position.”
Huang Di asked, “I’ve heard of people in ancient times, spoken of as the
immortals, who
knew the secrets of the universe and held the world in the palm of their hands.
They extracted
essence from nature and practiced Qi Gong and various stretching and breathing
exercises, and
visualizations, to integrate body, mind and
spirit. They remained undisturbed and thus attained
extraordinary levels of accomplishment. Can you tell me about them?”
Qi Bo responded, “The immortals kept their mental energies focused and refined,
and
harmonized their bodies with the environment. So they
did not show typical signs of aging and
were able to live beyond their biological limitations.
“Not so long ago there were people known as achieved beings who had true
virtue,
understood the Way of Life, and were able to adapt to and harmonize with the
universe and the
seasons. They too were able to keep their mental energy through proper
concentration.
“These achieved beings did not live like ordinary humans, who tended to be hard
on
3
themselves. They were able to travel freely to different times and places since
they were not
governed by conventional views of time and space. Their sense of
perceptions were supernormal,
going far beyond the sight and hearing of ordinary humans. They were also able
to preserve their
life spans and live in full health, just as the immortals did.
“There was a third type of a person, known as the sage. The sages lived
peacefully under
Heaven and Earth, following the rhythms of the planet and the universe. They
adapted to society
without being swayed by fashions and trends. They were free from emotional
extremes and lived
a balanced, contented existence. Their outward appearance, behavior and
thinking did not reflect
the conflicting norms of society. the sages appeared busy but were never
depleted. Internally they
did not overburden themselves. they abided in calmness, recognizing the empty
nature of
existence. The sages lived over one hundred years because they did not scatter
or disperse their
energies.
“A fourth type were the natural people who followed the Tao, the Way of Life,
and were
called naturalists. They lived in accordance with the rhythmic patters of the
seasons: Heaven and
Earth, moon, sun and stars. They aspired to
follow the way of the ancient times, choosing not to
lead excessive lifestyles. They, too, lived plainly and and enjoyed long life.”
The common phrase "Red
sky at morning" is a line from an ancient rhyme often
repeated by mariners:[1]
Red sky at night,
shepherd's delight.
Red sky at morning,
shepherd take warning;[2][3][4]
The rhyme is a rule of
thumb used for weather forecasting during the past two
millennia. It is based on the reddish glow of the morning or evening sky,
caused by haze or clouds related to storms in the region.[2][3][5] If
the morning skies are red, it is because clear skies over the horizon to the
east permit the sun to light the undersides of moisture-bearing clouds. The
saying assumes that more such clouds are coming in from the west. Conversely, in order to see red clouds in the evening, sunlight must
have a clear path from the west, and therefore the prevailing westerly wind
must be bringing clear skies.

Cycles of Life
Because we do not know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustable well. Yet everything happens a certain
number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times
will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that is
so deeply a part of your being that you can't even concieve of
your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more. Perhaps not even that.
How many times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it
all seems limitless.

EXCERPTS FROM EXCELLENT ARTICLE
"This gives us a scientific method for erasing
bad thoughts that were
programmed into us by our life experiences."
A thought is a circular flow of electrical current.
As current flows around
in a circle itbuilds up
a magnetic torus, or doughnut, around it. As long as
enough current flows through that part of the brain
to overcome the losses
encountered going around the loops, the thought
will circulate endlessly in that
part of the brain.
Further, the thoughts can flow either clockwise or
counterclockwise. Recall
that our life electric current is vertically upward
through our brain. A
positive thought would rotate around
these vertical currents in a clockwise
fashion viewed above. A negative thought would
rotate in the opposite direction.
A negative thought would, therefore, form a
resistance to the natural flow of
the currents. This resistance we would feel as some
form of electrical stress
in our system. We have labels for these feelings:
anxiety, stress, depression, etc.
Dr. Callahan developed a technique of treating
these phobias which works in moments.
The technique consists of tapping on the body with
one hand, on particular points, while
holding the thought of the phobia intensely in
one’s mind. This interrupts the electric
field and then reconnects it, building up a
resonance just like in a TV antenna. By using
the positive current flowing through the human body,
resonating it, and then focusing it
on the negative thought, Dr. Callahan’s technique
erases the circulating negative
current. The technique replaces it with a positive
current. It is an outstanding use of the
earth’s electrical field.
Another technique, taught to me by one of Dr.
Callahan’s students, is to use one
thought that is positive to erase one that is
negative.
The second interesting property of the brain’s
construction is that neural networks can
loop back onto themselves. I have verified with a
brain surgeon that such loops are
extremely common. This leads to an insight into how
the brain stores a thought.
[MCN].
The human heart beating at 84 pulses per minute is
operating at a frequency of 1.4 Hz.
This number may range from 1 to about 3 Hz. This
heartbeat is controlled by an
electrical signal which forces the muscle in the
heart to contract. Notice that the 1.75
Hz electrical signal picked up by Owen’s chain is
also in this frequency range.
The sunrise/sunset energy injection frequency is at
a frequency of 15 Hz. Recall that
this is the frequency of electromagnetic waves that
travel around the earth from sunrise
to sunset. This energy pump operates on us as we
move from our low frequency delta
state, through our alpha state, to our awake beta
state.
Notice in particular how the sunrise/sunset
electromagnetic energy is at a frequency
that is “turned into” by our brains. This is no
accident. It is the way we were designed
to work. The structure of the earth and the
ionosphere have created a source of
electromagnetic energy which feeds our bodies and
especially our brains.
There are some interesting relationships between
all these frequencies. Recall that
electromagnetic waves can add their energies if
they are at a frequency which is some
integer ratio of each other. For example, seven
waves of a beta brainwave at 21 Hz
would be “harmonic” to one wave at 3 Hz (3 x 7 =
21). Such a 3 Hz signal would add
energy to the beta brainwave. This is the meaning
of harmony."
"...the ratio 7/4 represents a ratio, or
division, of energy cycles into parts."
"The ratio between the sound frequency and the
electrical frequency that a
device reacts to is 906,344 to 1. In round numbers
this is a million to one ratio. This
ratio gives all physical devices a unique property.
They can react both to sound
or mechanical vibration waves and
to electromagnetic waves."
"Circular structures are particularly
interesting. One could think of a circular structure as
a guitar string wrapped back on itself. Remember
that electromagnetic waves rotate as
they propagate? Now imagine two electromagnetic
waves traveling along the same
path. Imagine that their frequencies form an
integer ratio. The rotating arrows will
line up with each other according to the integer.
If the two waves have a frequency ratio
of three to one, the fast wave will line up with
the slow wave at every 120 degrees (one
third of a circle) of rotation. When those rotating
vectors line up, the energy adds
together. This is the mechanism for the harmonic
addition of the energy in rotating
systems.
This has led to a very powerful concept of “sacred
geometry.” Sacred geometry treats
the divisions of the circle as mysterious,
mystical, holy things to be worshipped. There
is nothing magic here. It is simply based upon the
harmonics of energy addition.
The cycle of our day is divided into 24 hours.
Remember the 15 Hz sunrise/sunset
injection frequency and how it led to the 360
degrees in the circle? That led in turn to
the 24 hours of the day. The 360 degrees divided by 15 degrees equals 24. This is
another example of how the ancients had uncovered
the mysteries of harmonic energy
addition."
"So in the study of
energy fields we need to pay special attention to the harmonics, the
relationship between frequencies. We also need to
study the dimensions of
physical objects and learn what sonic and
electronic frequencies they can tune
into.
Take the human head as an example. The skull is a
resonant cavity. An average skull
might measure 22 centimeters front to back and 15
centimeters side to side. One could
consider this a circle with an average diameter of
about 19 centimeters. A wave
traveling around the circumference of a 19 centimeter circle would resonate
electronically at 250 MHz or to a sound frequency
of about 250 Hz. Notice that this
resonant frequency is extremely close to the 12th
harmonic of the beta brainwave (21
Hz x 12 = 252 Hz).
The beta brainwave then seems to be a natural
result of our brain’s cavity. So not only
is our earth built to supply us energy at the
proper frequencies for our brainwaves, but
our heads are built to tune into these energies,
resonate them, and amplify them."
"...scientist, Hans Cousto,
has shown that this frequency is the “concert tone” of the sun
[COU]. It pervades natural cycles.
One hundred twenty six
multiplied again by two gives a 252 Hz resonant head cavity
frequency. This also shows up in Hunt’s recordings
as a blue muscle contraction
frequency ( The colors
mentioned here are the colors seen by Hunt’s psychic healers ).
This 126 Hz cycle, one half the head’s resonant
frequency, forms an important base
frequency. The 126 Hz frequency multiplied by 3 is
a 378 Hz signal, which matches the
yellow band in Hunt’s Exhibit 9. The 126 Hz
multiplied by 4 equals 504 Hz, which
matches the orange band. Multiplying 126 Hz by 5
gives the 630 Hz red band
associated with pain.
The 126 Hz frequency multiplied by 6 gives 756 Hz,
which is the frequency of the
healee’s double red helix
pattern in Hunt’s Exhibit 10. This is apparently the frequency
at which the person being healed is receiving
energy from the healer. Interestingly the
healer is transmitting this signal 126 Hz higher at
882 Hz. This is the seventh harmonic
of the 126 Hz base frequency. Somehow, in this
healing process, the sixth and seventh
harmonics are being used."
This set of frequencies is also related to the
frequencies of “atmospherics.”
Atmospherics are electrical discharges occurring
constantly in the earth’s atmosphere.
A Swiss engineer, Hans Baumer,
found that these discharges formed a harmonic
frequency series. Cousto showed
that this series could be transposed into the audible
range [COU]. When that is done, the series comes
very close to the series just shown.
In the figure, the frequencies marked with an
asterisk are very close to Cousto’s
atmospheric series. Interestingly, Baumer found that atmospherics were the source of
chemical changes in proteins used in printing inks.
Remember, we are made of protein.
It is clear from this harmonic structure that the
energy field waves we experience are
closely coupled to our physical environment,
our own physical structure, and are
governed by the laws of harmonic energy addition.
This harmonic structure can be affected by anything
in our environment which produces
frequencies that are similar. For example, our
power line grid system operates at a
frequency of 60 Hz in the US. The 2nd harmonic of this system is 120 Hz. That is
extremely close to the 126 Hz base frequency of the
series just described. This
suggests that there is a strong coupling between
our physiology and all the electrical
equipment around us. Our bodies, including our
brains, are tuned very close to the
same frequencies.
There are also interesting effects caused by the
million to one harmonic ratios formed in
resonant cavities. A human head resonant at a sound
frequency of 250 Hz is
electrically resonant near 250 MHz. Energy at harmonics of 250 MHz could
theoretically be detected
directly by our brains.
But how far can a person take the principle of
timing events?
Here is another Chinese example
;
When will a predicted outcome occur? When an
outcome is expected immediately, as in "The Neighbor Who Borrows at
Night," further timing considerations are irrelevant. When the outcome is
in a distant future, timing considerations come into
play. There are at least two ways to time an outcome: 1. the timing factor, 2.
time associations of the resulting hexagram.
trigram1 + trigram2 + hour of query = timing
factor, where the trigrams numbers are those of the cast hexagram, and the hour
of query is the Chinese hour (Wilcox) or the 24-hour clock in local time (Jou). Use you judgment
as to which you prefer. (Indeed, "Use your judgment" might be the
motto of Plum Blossom divination.)
The timing factor is adjusted for tempo.
If the diviner is lying down or sitting, the timing
factor is multiplied by 2
If the diviner is standing still, the timing factor
is unchanged (multiplied by 1).
If the diviner is walking, the timing factor is
multiplied by 1/2.
We now have a timing factor, but we do not know the
unit of time it represents. The units of time are seconds, minutes, hours,
days, weeks, fortnights (popular in Great Britain), months, years, decades,
centuries, millennia, etc. The unit of time is determined by the life cycle of
the querent (person or object being divined about). The timing factor's units
must fall within the life cycle of the querent but not be unconscionably brief.
When units are selected, one has a definite period of time.
If the timing factor is 18 and the unit of time is hours, then the period is 18
hours. This period is added to the moment when an intent to divine occurred to
give the time when the outcome will occur. For example, in the "Doomed
Peonies," the cast hexagram is 44.
☰ =
1
☴ =
5
The intent to divine occurred at a little past 12
noon, so the timing factor is 1 + 5 + 12 = 18. Shao was standing when he
observed the flowers, so tempo does not change the
factor. Shao takes the unit of time to be hours. Peonies are short lived, and
the unit of time cannot be days. 12 noon + 18 hours gives 6am the next day (Jou, p.109).
However, in this case Shao finds the time
associations of the resulting hexagram to be more compelling than the timing
factor. The resulting hexagram is
☲
☴
Shao sees this as the bright sun (fire) over the
peonies (wood), so decides that the outcome will be at noon the next day.

you to an Emotional or Mental State

Positive control over your
emotional memory.

Technique: Each time we
pull a bad Emotional Memory (EM) file, we add something to it. A comment, a
joke, a physical gesture, etc. The brain will automatically save the file due
to the new/added parts.
Sample Treatment Plan
Event: We have been
violently assaulted by someone.
Emotional part of the
memory: The emotional component contains fears of dying, a fight-for-my-life
feeling, panic, and severe anxiety.
Procedure: Each time we
bring up the Emotional Memory (EM) of the event, we add something — the funnier
the better. For example: “After that assault, I’ve canceled my scheduled bout
with Mike Tyson. I’m just not up to it.” Or, “I’ve
decided to market a line of assault-proof underwear. You think JC Penneys would be interested?”Or, “I haven’t had a fight like that since I used
my brother’s Beatles albums as Frisbees!” It’s like adding a sentence each time
we review the word processor letter — watering down the original content over
time. We can make up or imagine part of the event as a humorous addition, for
example “I just kept thinking during the attack, my taxes are due!!” The
reactions of others to your humor will also be added to the file. This is why a
World War II vet can talk calmly about horrible events during the war at the
American Legion — he’s discussed it so often, in so many different
circumstances, that the emotional part has gone. Only the details remain. In
Emotional Memory (EM), we naturally do this technique, commonly known as
“getting over it”. This paper just tells you how to do that faster and more
efficiently. Any Emotional Memory (EM) can be approached in this manner and
“watered down”.
Summary
We are a collection of
memories — that’s who we are, what makes up our personality, what controls our
behaviors, and what often produces our moods. The good
Emotional Memory (EM) is a blessing to us, remembering good times during
childhood, our favorite songs/events, and old friends. However, we have all
collected bad or often traumatic Emotional Memory (EM) files as well. The goal
of Emotional Memory Management is to control or eliminate the emotional part of
those files. If we can do that, our history of bad experiences becomes just
that — history. Those files become a record of where we’ve been and
experienced, not something that continues to control our moods and behaviors.
In daily living and
especially during times of stress, our memory file system is very important. It
is a system that is active every second, works automatically, and can change
our mood within two minutes. We have presented the above information with the
hope that you can lower your stress and live more effectively by controlling
your emotional memory files rather than allowing them to control you! Remember
— our emotional file system is like our breathing, it will operate
on automatic or we can take manual control.
Knowing how the system operates allows us more control over our memories and
daily lives.

Take the orbits of any two planets and draw a line between the two planet
positions every few days. Because the inner planet orbits faster than the

own unique dance rhythm. For example, the Earth-Venus dance returns to

Astrological Harmonic Patterns
as Possible Indicators of Extraversion/Introversion
Abstract – A strong relationship was found between the measurement of
extraversion/introversion using the E-scale of the Eysenck Personality
Inventory and a measure of expected tendencies towards extraversion or
introversion based on 7-based harmonic patterns between Sun and Saturn. The
relationship is especially strong when planetary measurements are in right
ascension rather than zodiac longitude. This particular
harmonic pattern was hypothesized to be important based on earlier
anecdotal evidence. The value of exploratory research using visual tools in
this area of research is discussed. The potential social benefits of
astrological research are also discussed, regardless of the outcome of the
research and regardless of whether one is a believe or non-believer in
astrology.

The book, ‘A Little Book of Coincidence’ by John Martineau, illustrates the
orbital patterns and several of their geometrical relationships.
THERE ARE MUCH BIGGER THINGS MOVING THAN JUST PLANETS
We now have a very different view of the orbits in our solar system -- once we
see that this is happening.
If you only look at the planets themselves, you are completely missing the
movement of these far more massive geometric energy patterns -- all nested
together like layers of an onion.
Martineau's book proves that these relationships exist throughout the entire
solar system, with very high levels of precision -- usually around 99.9 percent
perfect.
The geometric spacing between the planetary orbits was proven recently by John
Martineau -- in A Little Book of Coincidence in the Solar System.
A most unusual guide to the solar system, A Little Book of Coincidence suggests
that there may be fundamental relationships between space, time, and life that
have not yet been fully understood. From the observations of Ptolemy and Kepler
to the Harmony of the Spheres and the hidden structure of the solar system,
John Martineau reveals the exquisite orbital patterns of the planets and the
mathematical relationships that govern them. A table shows the relative
measurements of each planet in eighteen categories, and three pages show the
beautiful dance patterns of thirty six pairs of planets and moons.

How often have you heard people say they are ‘out of sorts’ ? How
revealing it is to then learn that they were born on a day of peak solar
activity and that we are going through a time of negligible activity? Just
knowing that the Sun, the great giver of life is at a quite different stage in
its cycle to the one they experienced at entry may be illuminating in the
finest sense.
It is unfortunate that as yet we know so little about our special star, the Sun
– a seemingly never-ending gigantic atomic explosion whose place in our
universe we understand through the concept of the year but whose rhythms remain
something of a mystery. What we do know is that the Sun generates enough
power in 1 second to meet the energy needs of the US for four million
years. It has a pulse that ‘pounds’
every 160 minutes, a cycle of sunspots and even periods when it is retrograde.
We know too that the Sun is made up of seven
layers: a photosphere and chromosphere, convection and radiation zones
and an interface between the two. It is likely that there are pulses within
each.
Our Sun at first appears to be a chaotic structure. However, the more we probe,
the more we discover it to have set rhythms. It has long been conjectured that
the planets held by its gravitational pull might also have effect on its behaviour. The truth may be far more complex – and
exciting. (Read Gregory Sams’ fascinating book
‘Sun of gOd’ for thoughts on our sun’s
consciousness.)
Astro-economists look at all manner of cosmic cycles from the seasons through
to sunspots, solar flares, solar magnetic storms and
solar retrograde periods through which to make their forecasts.
Helioseismology, the science of the Sun, is still in its infancy but there is
no doubt that greater knowledge will bring mankind greater understanding of
economic life-cycles.
Through understanding of the seasons, the planting and harvesting of crops, we
accept that our financial worlds are very much affected by solar activity. The
Sun even affects our high-tech age. At 07.04 EST on May 13th, 1921 a solar magnetic storm was the cause of signal and
switching system failure on the New York Central Railroad below 125th street.
The same storm affected telephone, telegraph and cable
traffic across Europe. Can you imagine the economic effect of the widespread
disruption of communications?
Similarly, a Coronal Mass Ejection on March 9, 1989
brought about a severe geomagnetic storm bringing short wave radio interference
(prompting some military experts to think that the Soviets were attacking).
This solar eruption affected Earth a few days later, at 2:44 am on March 13, 1989 when Hydro-Quebec’s power grid was adversely affected.
This led to a nine hour shut down
– once again with major economic consequences. In August of that same year,
another storm produced a halt to trading on the Toronto stock market when their
microchips were similarly affected.
The source of earthy communication malfunction can be traced directly auroras –
which are themselves after-effects of intense solar activity. Though as yet we
have no way of predicting these events, we must acknowledge their power to
bring economic chaos.
Solar scientists are able to alert us to increase activity and to give some
warning of the potential for electrical fault within the few days following a
sudden outburst of activity, but they cannot, as yet,
tell us where the effects will be most greatly felt. Their astro-economic counterparts continue to make notes and to build
up a picture of the links between solar activity and our financial – and
creative – worlds.
Thoedor Landscheit in
his remarkable work ‘Sun, Earth, Man’ suggested that solar flares increased
creativity. It may be that these play an important role in flashes of
inspiration or even mystical activity. A client who suggests they had a ‘bright
idea’ and for which no planetary activity gives plausible explanation, may have
been affected by a recent solar flare burst. You can check this out through
www.spaceweather.com.
This is understanding through hindsight. Forecasting is another matter
altogether. The simple fact is that we do not yet know enough.
We do know a little which can be put to practical use. Heading this list of
cycle understanding is an approximately 190 year
cycle.
You probably know that the Sun is actually not the centre
of our solar system. The Sun and its system rotate in counter-clockwise
motion around a central point known as the Barycentre.
On seven occasions in the last four thousand years the combined position of the
great planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune have created a pull that has
resulted in the Sun rotating clockwise (retrograde) relative to the solar
system Barycentre.
When Jupiter is at right angles to the Barycentre,
as in 1632, between 1810 and 1812 and again through 1989 and 1990, we
experienced a Sun retrograde period.
Meteorological studies show that the period post-solar-retrograde (lasting up
to 30 years) brings disturbed weather patterns. These then result in shorter
growing seasons and, inevitably, higher food costs.
As of 2010, we are still in one of these post-solar retrograde periods and
evidence of disturbed weather patterns is all around. In the next decade it is
probable that food prices will rise as a direct consequence of shortage of
crops.
Understanding of this approximately 190 year cycle
enabled astro-economists to suggest that from
1990 onward there might be mass migration of peoples across planet Earth as
people sought better conditions under which they could sustain themselves. It
was always likely that the period 1990-2020 would be a time of extraordinary
social and subsequent political and economic upheaval.
A much shorter period is termed the ‘sunspot cycle’. Scientists track solar
cycles by counting sunspots — cool planet-sized areas on the Sun where intense
magnetic loops poke through the star’s visible surface.
Sunspots offer a fascinating field for economic study. In the 19th Century
Professor Jevons studied tables for wheat, barley, oats, beans, peas and rye
from 1259-1763 to show an 11.11 year sun spot cycle.
(As interesting are the studies of Arthur Schuster who found that good wine
years in Germany corresponded with years of minimum sun spots!).
Another study (Tchijevsky 1926) suggested that
wars, revolutions and mass movements with their resulting political, social and
economic consequences coincided with high levels of sun spot activity. Sunspots
give off solar flares which in turn increase negative ionization on earth –
which might explain increased excitability and activity during solar maxima. (Tchijevsky noted that particularly severe battles
regularly followed a solar flare during the sunspot peak period of 1916-17.)
By contrast, David Williams’ studies in the 1950s showed that the US had been
engaged in either war or experienced depression during alternate periods of low
sunspot activity. These findings appear to contradict Tchijevsky.
However, it might simply be that when sunspots are at either minima or maxima
there is extreme behaviour on Earth.
The double cycle – approximately 22.2 years – covers the time when spots move
downwards across the northern hemisphere of the sun, across its equator and
then down toward the sun’s equivalent of the Tropic of Capricorn before
starting off again in the Sun’s northern hemisphere.
Had the sunspot cycle been behaving ‘normally’, then a period of low sunspots
would have been experienced in late 2007. During this particular
cycle however there has been an exceptionally
long solar minimum period. The ‘typical’ number of spotless (minima) days is
486 days. The minima period held for much longer than
expected however and, since 2004, (and as of the time of writing) there have
been 813 spotless days. 260 of these were in 2009 when we might have expected
sunspot activity to be increasing. Spots are now occurring more frequently
though it is hard to know exactly when maxima might now be reached.
Astro-economists have looked for correlation between the number of sunspots and
stock market indices. The results are compelling. The next graph was prepared
during the recent extended minima period and still shows an extended peak for
2014.
It is possible that this might not occur however.
The graph above was produced by Jan Alvestad who
used data from the sunspot data index centre in
Brussels. From this we see that the sun was still in a minima period in May
2009 and that the number is only now increasing (65 as of yesterday). The clear
disturbance to the pattern makes forecast of the next maxima difficult to make.
It is unlikely to be in 2011 as might have been
expected but rather some years later. Indeed, it is possible that we are now
witnessing disturbance not seen since earlier times of ‘solar discontent’ which
have now been named the Dalton and Maunder minimums.
At the simplest of levels this suggests that there will continue to be serious
disruption to weather patterns and, most likely, that growing periods will be
substantially affected –leading to poor crops and food shortages: with
considerable economic effect.
Put this together with the retrograde sun forecasts and it seems very likely
indeed that the coming decade will be difficult and that food prices will soar.
As explained, it is not possible to forecast all solar activity. My clients do
appreciate being reminded of its rhythms and of possible consequences in trading however. At a personal level, and of practical use
is awareness of where we are in the sunspot cycle and whether sunspot numbers
are close to those experienced at birth or are at a different stage in the
cycle.
Recently I have been working with two elderly investors both of whom were born
when sunspot activity was extremely low. In tracing their investment history we discovered that they had made their best
decisions when the numbers were similarly low and their worst when the numbers
were very high. Sunspot tables can be found in Neil Michelson’s excellent book,
‘Planetary Phenomena’ or through the nasa website.
Neil Michelson’s book also lists major magnetic storms. Allow a short orb for
their influence. Another two investors were both born within 24hours of major
storms – which seems to hint at their propensity to suddenly ‘seize on the
moment’ and to take risks that others might consider foolhardy. Both are
exceptionally good investors.
In preparing this article I discovered just how little I knew about our special
star but that what I did understand compelled me to learn more about its
activities. To me it is not enough to know where it was in zodiacal terms about
its status: I have a thirst to know what kind of ‘mood’ it was and is in and
how this correlates with economic activity. I suspect that this will be a
never-ending quest.
Counting sunspots is not straightforward. Looking at the Sun through a pair of
(properly filtered) low power binoculars – you might be able to see two or
three large spots. Someone using a high-powered telescope might see 10 or 20. A
powerful space-based observatory would see even more — say, 50 to 100. Which is
the correct sunspot number?
There are two official sunspot numbers in common use. The first, the daily
“Boulder Sunspot Number,” is computed by the NOAA Space Environment Center
using a formula devised by Rudolph Wolf in 1848:
R=k (10g+s),
where R is the sunspot number; g is the number of sunspot groups on the solar
disk; s is the total number of individual spots in all the groups; and k is a
variable scaling factor (usually <1) that accounts for observing conditions
and the type of telescope (binoculars, space telescopes, etc.). Scientists
combine data from lots of observatories — each with its own k factor — to arrive
at a daily value.
The Boulder number (reported daily on SpaceWeather.com) is usually about 25%
higher than the second official index, the “International Sunspot Number,”
published daily by the Solar Influences Data Center in Belgium. Both the Boulder
and the International numbers are calculated from the same basic formula, but
they incorporate data from different observatories.
As a rule of thumb, if you divide either of the official sunspot numbers by 15,
you’ll get the approximate number of individual sunspots visible on the solar
disk if you look at the Sun by projecting its image on a paper plate with a
small telescope.

Stars are Beautiful Because
....
From The Little Prince
"The stars are beautiful, because of a flower that cannot be seen."
Some selections from The Little Prince - the Real Messages of the Story:
"If some one loves a flower, of which
just one single blossom grows in all the millions and millions of stars, it is
enough to make him happy just to look at the stars. He can say to himself,
'Somewhere, my flower is there...' But if the sheep eats the flower, in one
moment all his stars will be darkened... And you think
that is not important!"
It is such a secret place, the land of tears.
"I ought not to have listened to her," he confided to me one day.
"One never ought to listen to the flowers. One should simply look at them
and breathe their fragrance. Mine perfumed all my planet. But I did not know
how to take pleasure in all her grace." ..."The fact is that I did
not know how to understand anything! I ought to have judged by deeds and not by
words. She cast her fragrance and her radiance over me. I ought never to have
run away from her... I ought to have guessed all the affection that lay behind
her poor little stratagems. Flowers are so inconsistent! But I was too young to
know how to love her..."
"Well, I must endure the presence of two or three caterpillars if I wish
to become acquainted with the butterflies. It seems that they are very
beautiful. And if not the butterflies-- and the caterpillars-- who will call
upon me? You will be far away... as for the large animals-- I am not at all
afraid of any of them. I have my claws." And, naïvely, she showed her four
thorns.
"My flower is ephemeral," the little prince said to himself,
"and she has only four thorns to defend herself against the world. And I
have left her on my planet, all alone!"
"I should like to see a sunset... do me that
kindness... Order the sun to set..." ... "You shall have your sunset.
I shall command it {said the king}. But, according to my science of government,
I shall wait until conditions are favorable." "When will that
be?" inquired the little prince. "Hum! Hum!" replied the king;
and before saying anything else he consulted a bulky almanac. "Hum! Hum!
That will be about-- about-- that will be this
evening about twenty minutes to eight. And you will see how well I am
obeyed."
"Do you really admire me very much?" the conceited man demanded of
the little prince. "What does that mean-- 'admire'?" "To admire
mean that you regard me as the handsomest, the best-dressed, the richest, and
the most intelligent man on this planet." "But you are the only man
on your planet!" "Do me this kindness. Admire me just the same."
"Where are the men?" the little prince at last took up the
conversation again. "It is a little lonely in the desert..." "It
is also lonely among men," the snake said.
"Where are the men?" the little prince asked, politely. The flower
had once seen a caravan passing. "Men?" she echoed. "I think
there are six or seven of them in existence. I saw them,
several years ago. But one never knows where to find them. The wind blows them
away. They have no roots, and that makes their life very difficult."
"Come and play with me," proposed the little prince. "I am so
unhappy." "I cannot play with you," the fox said. "I am not
tamed." ...What does that mean-- 'tame'?" "It is an act too
often neglected," said the fox. It means to establish ties."
"'To establish ties'?" "Just
that," said the fox. "To me, you are still nothing more than a little
boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need
of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more
than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you
will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the
world..." "I am beginning to understand," said the little prince.
"There is a flower... I think that she has tamed me..."
"Goodbye," said the fox. "And now here is my secret, a very
simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is
essential is invisible to the eye." "Men have forgotten this
truth," said the fox. "But you must not forget it. You become
responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. You are responsible for your
rose..."
One runs the risk of weeping a little, if one lets himself be tamed...
"The stars are beautiful, because of a flower that cannot be seen."
This was a merchant who sold pills that had been invented to quench thirst. You
need only swallow one pill a week, and you would feel no need of anything to drink. "Why are you selling those?"
asked the little prince. "Because they save a tremendous amount of
time," said the merchant. "Computations have been made by experts.
With these pills, you save fifty-three minutes in
every week." "And what do I do with those fifty-three minutes?"
"Anything you like..." "As for me," said the little prince
to himself, "if I had fifty-three minutes to spend as I liked, I should
walk at my leisure toward a spring of fresh water."
"All men have the stars," he answered, "but they are not the
same things for different people. For some, who are travelers, the stars are
guides. For others they are no more than little lights in the sky. For others,
who are scholars, they are problems. For my businessman they were wealth. But
all these stars are silent. You-- you alone-- will
have the stars as no one else has them--" "In one of the stars I
shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing.

Maping Hexagrams with Date
and Time – Hsien Tien Method
While some practitioners use the chinese calendar, others use numeric numbers of
western dates for this method rather than the chinese calendar.
E.g.
Year 1982 => 1982/12
=> remainder = 2
if remainder = 0, use 12.
Mth March
= 3, Nov =11
Date 24 =24
Time 3pm = 15
In divination, we use the
time in which the divination is done. For The
Outer trigram:(Year + Month + Day) / 8Take the remainder. If remainder is 0,
use the number 8.For The lower trigram:
(Year + Month + Day + Hour)
/ 8
Take the remainder. If
remainder is 0, use the number 8.
To Determine the Moving Yao
(Year + Month + Day + Hour)
/ 6
Take the remainder. If
remainder is 0, use the number 8.

Plum Blossom I-Ching – The Hu Tien Method
The Hu Tien Divination deals with current events
and uses the environment, situation and objects directly confronting us.
For successful divination, one should only consider
out-of-the-ordinary situations or sightings. For this, one has
to be observant.
Observe and notice percularity of a situation, then mark out the
hexagrams.
Importance of Trigrams
Since everything has is represented by one of the
eight trigrams, in the Hu Tien Divination method, it is important to be well
versed in the meanings and significance of each trigram.
The above shows the direction relative to the
diviner and the trigtam that describes it.
For the Pen Kua, the
direction is the lower trigram.
The Upper trigram of the Pen Kua is the subject. E.g. Old
Man = Qian, a Bird = Xun.
For the moving line, it is the remainder of: (top
trigram + bottom trigram + hour)/6
Follow process of
identifying the Ti and Yungs and the strength of the Ti.

Plum Blossom (Mei Hua) I Ching
The Plum Blossom divination, or Mei Hua I-Ching has
its roots in the Sung Synasty (920-1279ad)
and is said to originate in 1011-1077 with a government official named Shao.
This method does not involve the use of coins, but
rather the dates and/or symbols that define the trigrams.
There are 2 Divination methods to derive the
hexagrams: Hsien Tien method and Hu Tien Method.
Proficieny in this form of
divination requires acute observation and intuition. Practice is usually
sufficient for mastery of this technique.
Refer to the Trigrams.
The Trigrams are alloted Numbers
1 – Qian , 2 – Dui, 3 –
Li, 4 – Zhen, 5 – Xun, 6 – Kan, 7 – Gen, 8- Kun.
Pen Kua and Hu Kua
Pen Kua is the original hexagram we for the
divination. This is derived from date and time, and or
other factors.
Hu Kua is
derived from taking the four inner lines of the Pen Kua and
arranging them like so:
hexagram pen kua
Shih Kua
ShiH Qua
is the final Kua after the change has occured. It represents the final
destination.
hexagram shih kua
Ti
& Yung
“Ti”
is inherent, material, born with, natural.
“Yung” is adapted,
nurtured, used for.
In divining with hexagrams,
the 2 trigrams of the Pen Kua hexagrams is divided to “Ti and Yung”.
Where there are no moving
line or Yao, the lower trigram is Ti and the upper is
Yung.
Where there is a changing
line or Yao, the trigram with the changing line is Yung.
Trigrams in the Hu and
Shih Kua are Yung.
The Ti
trigram represent the subject or self. How the other Yung trigams interact with it will determine the reading of
the divination.
Analysis of how the Yung
affect the Ti will be approached by analysing the properties and element of the trigrams
relative to each other.
This is as per the
5-element theory.
Ti
is like the Self. If the Yung trigrams are elements that “destroy” or “drain”
the Ti trigram element, then the divination answers
in the negative.
If the Yung trigram
elements support or enhance the Ti trigram element then the divination answers the affirmative.
Strength of the Ti trigram depends on the affect
of the Yung trigrams. This is affected by the type of elements, the closeness
to the Ti, and the number of opposing vs enhancing
elements.
Refer to the 5-element
theory to understand the trigram relationships.
